Description
Uses:
- To lessen the risk of heart attack or stroke in grown-ups with atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD).
- In patients with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (HeFH) or homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (HoFH), genetic diseases that result in extremely high levels of cholesterol.
- Used in addition to diet and other cholesterol-reducing treatments, such as statins.
How It Is Distributed:
Repatha SureClick is an autoinjector filled and ready to use and injected subcutaneously (under the skin). It is administered as 140 mg once every two weeks or 420 mg once per month, injected in adults at any of the given points, like the thigh, abdomen, or upper arm. It can be taken at home by the trained patients or caregivers.
Side Effects:
Other side effects tend to resemble those of the common cold or flu, injection site reactions (redness, swelling, pain), back pains, and minor allergic reactions, such as the occurrence of rash. Severe allergic reactions are infrequent, but they require treatment as emergencies.
Precautions:
Allergies, any chronic medical conditions, and other medicines the patient consumes must be disclosed to the doctor before the start of Repatha. The safety of Repatha during pregnancy or breastfeeding is not proven, and the matter should be clarified with a doctor to eliminate any possible threats.
Note:
Repatha must be used in combination with a general cholesterol management plan, using diet, exercise, and routine physician visits.
