Cancer Medicines
Cancer occurs when there’s an uncontrolled division of abnormal cells. Some forms of cancer spread into other tissues as well. There are more than 200 types of this disease. In the UK, 1 in 2 shall be afflicted by cancer in their lifetime. Research has given us new forms of treatment that cures many.
One cell or a few cells may grow or multiply fast due to gene changes triggering cancer causing a tumour. Cancer spreads to other parts of the body and requires immediate treatment. The spot where the cancer starts is the primary tumour and when it has spread to other parts of the body, it’s called secondary tumour or metastasis.
- Nab-paclitaxel (Abraxane): This is a combination of the chemotherapy drug paclitaxel and a protein called albumin
- Ibuprofen (Brufen, Nurofen): This is an anti-inflammation medicine taken for relief from moderate pain and swelling
- Vandetanib (Caprelsa): A targeted cancer drug, Caprelsa is meant for advanced medullary thyroid cancer Cytarabine
- (Depocyte): This is a chemotherapy drug used to treat some forms of lymphoma and leukaemia
- Oxaliplatin (Eloxatin): Oxaliplatin, also known as Eloxatin is used to treat bowel and other types of cancer. It’s a chemotherapy drug
- Letrozole (Femara): A type of hormone therapy durg, this is a tablet taken once a day to treat breast cancer in women who have experienced menopause
